The Cardiff 75 launch event at Waterstones Cardiff, answering questions from the audience on my short story ‘The Bone Layers’.
All the way back in May 2022, my short story won Cardiff Writers’ Circle Short Story Competition. ‘The Bone Layers’ was inspired by a night off from exams and my recent reading of All Tomorrows by Nemo Ramjet. All Tomorrows is a speculative telling of future human evolution, a slow horror of what might become of us and our bodies.
Because of the award, my story has the first spot in the anthology. The other 74 stories (one for each year the Cardiff Writers’ Circle has existed) have been written by other writers from around the city. There are short stories, poems and flash fiction of all varieties to tuck into and enjoy.

With Christina Thatcher, head of Roath Writers, discussing running Creative Writing Society.
Because of my involvement in the anthology and my leadership of Cardiff University Creative Writing Society, I was invited to be on a panel at two launch events for the Cardiff 75 anthology. The first was held in Waterstones Cardiff where I read from my story and answered questions about the group and its creative aims and activities.
Signing anthologies and swapping words with fellow writers.
It was a surreal experience signing books! I must admit, I didn’t come prepared with a pen.
At the second launch at Wellfield Books, after reading from an extract from my story.
The second launch event ran more of an open reading programme. All were invited to read any work of their own. The event was open to all in a still operational bookshop. There were plates of biscuits too!
Book launch events are definitely my cup of tea. ☕️
